Current Maintenance Contracts

Pitchcraft is currently the preferred turf management contractor for a number of major stadiums and sporting venues and also specialise in ‘one-off’ major projects.

All stadiums and other venues maintained by Pitchcraft are done so by using sound agronomic and turf management principles and the latest innovations within the turf industry. A policy of ‘light and frequent’ is the basis for optimum results along with the hard work and attention to detail from Pitchcraft’s highly qualified and experienced staff.

Below are some of the stadiums and venues Pitchcraft manages and some recent projects:

Simonds Stadium, Geelong

The much-envied home of the Geelong Cats AFL team, Simonds Stadium is now considered to have one of the best sporting surfaces in Australia. The oval has been maintained and managed by Pitchcraft since 2008. Geelong’s premium sports stadium has also developed into a multi-sport venue over recent years hosting a number of First Class cricket matches with drop in wickets (Port-A-Pitches), national soccer games and motor cross events. Pitchcraft has overseen and managed the turf conditioning, preparation and line marking for these venue transformations. Under the guidance of Richard Winter, the centre of the stadium is prepared with a base ready for the use of Port-A-Pitches for First Class cricket matches. A ‘ready to use’ Port-A-Pitch is located in a nearby nursery within the grounds of Kardinia Park which was used for a Ryobi Cup One Day Match at Simonds Stadium in December 2010.

Waverley Park, Waverley

The historic Waverley Park (formerly VFL Park) is the home to the AFL’s Hawthorn Football Club and is also under the experienced care of Pitchcraft. Amid the new housing estates the remaining grandstand sits as an oasis and is not only utilised by the Hawkes for training and practice matches but also utilised by the many locals that enjoy its character. The oval surface is prepared and maintained to the highest standard to ensure that practice surface are as close to possible as match day conditions.

Essendon Football Club (Windy Hill) & True Value Solar Centre

Pitchcraft took over the maintenance of Windy Hill oval and Bowling greens in November 2011. With the Oval in poor condition, work began at a hectic pace to achieve a full cover of Santa Ana couch by the end of February while hosting a full Summer of Cricket. With Ryegrass installed for the Winter months, the field has transformed into an ideal playing surface for the Bombers 2012 campaign. With favourable conditions, the field will transform well in Spring for another Summer of Cricket.

The Bowls Bent/Poa greens survived the summer conditions before renovation took place in Autumn ready for commitments coming up in Spring.

Junction Oval, St Kilda

Currently the home to the St Kilda Cricket Club & the Old Melburnians AFC, as well as Cricket Victoria’s preferred venue (outside the MCG) for Future League and other development matches. Pitchcraft manages the turf operations for the oval, centre wicket table and practice wickets all year round. This ensures a smooth transition from cricket to football season and allows the Pitchcraft staff to plan and implement their own turf maintenance schedules that will produce the best results for both sports. The entire oval and practice wicket area received a full re-build during 2011 and was ready in time for cricket in mid November 2011. The surface developed into one of the best in Victorian Premier Cricket and hosted the Grand Final in March 2012.
